two friends got married last week.
one is someone who usually hang out with me and the other is someone who sit about one meter away from me on every single working day.

so last thursday, we went to a small village
somewhere in buleleng to attend the wedding. it was so cool that he arranged the marriage's date on working day, so we had

an excuse not to work during that day. it took about 3 hours to get there. the route: kuta-payangan-kintamani then we arrived on the village. the wedding was using traditional balinese ceremony, but we were there just for the lunch . after said hi and blablabla, we drove back to kuta.

the back route was different:
singaraja-bedugul-denpasar-kuta. we stop at the traditional market at bedugul to buy some stuff then had some more meals in denpasar.

and last nite, we went to the reception at
sanur. it was a small outdoor wedding by the beach under the moonlight with white flowers and candles. it was beautiful . met some people including my old boss.

a
conversation that i heard there :
"hey, you hair got bigger."
"like people said, bigger hair closer to heaven."
"closer to god."
"yeah."

last weekend, i watched a documentary called one day in september. it was a good ducumentary, but i'm not going to write about tragic thing . what amazed me from the movie was the olympic stadium in munich.

the stadium was built in 1972 for munich olympic games. it has irregular shape, unusual material, and tent-like structure. i have been in munich about 2 or 3 times, but never has chance to visit it *damn! *. i saw it for the first time on a postcard as one of munich's tourist attraction and later i learned more about it: designed by Günther Behmisch, Frei Otto & Partners, the roof comprises
thousands of tiles of transparent acrylic glass arranged to form a "tent" cover over the stadium, covering a total area of 85,000 square meters (915,000 square feet). it can seat 80,000 people and now it is use for the home of the main local soccer team, FC bayern münchen.

the olympic site is
3 square km large and now blended in with the city. it is easily reachable via the U-bahn (underground). when the stadium is not in use, you can take an organized climbing tour of the glass tent roof! from up there, you can see zugspitze, germany's highest mountain.

i was interested to watch a la folie... pas du tout (he loves me he loves me not) because audrey tautou *the cute girl who played as amelie poulain in le fabuleux destin d'amelie poulain* is in it. like a typical french movie, it is weird, strange, bizarre, confusing , suprising, unpredictable, etc, etc. it's about angelique, an art student who falled in love with a married doctor. first half or
the movie is the story from angelique's side and the other half is from the doctor's side.
bel canto is definitely a good book !! *sori gue suka histeris gitu kalo abis baca buku bagus*. no wonder it won so many prizes: orange prize, pen/faulkener award, and book critic circle award finalist. the story is so unique (eventhough it happened a couple years ago in real life).
the setting is somewhere in a country in south america. the vice president of the country was having a party at his house with important guests from all over the world when some terrorist invaded his house (through the air conditioner tunnel) then took some of the guests as hostages. actually the terrorist wanted the president, but he was not attending the party (he chose watching soap opera on tv (telenovela) instead of attending the party!). since the agreement between the terrorists and the government was very slow, the terrorists and the hostages stayed together in the vice president's house for months. they ended up with some relations and became friends. but the ending was so saaaaad .

indiana chronicle - blues by clara ng

1. saw the book for the first time in a book shop. i like the cover , and i think i'll like the story, but decided to buy it later.

2. read about the book in this blog. makin pengen beli.

3. a friend told me that she has the book so i don't

have to buy it . she also told me that it's clara ng's second book, she recommended me to read the first one as well.

4. borrowed the book, then found out that i have read her first book about two years ago . the title was tujuh musim setahun. it was even in my old delete blog *sept or oct 2002, ga penting *.

5. started reading the book and love it! somehow i felt like indiana's relation to her job was like mine.

6. waiting impatiently for the next chronicle.

i'm reading bel canto by ann patchett.
in the story, there's this japanese guy named
gen. he's a translator, but he doesn't just translate one language to another, he translates from languages to languages. he knows more than 10 languages! if someone like him really exist, i will worship him for sure .

the first foreign language that i learned was english, then german, then french. but all of them are terrible (i know i'm not good in languages, and i'm not good in other things either, actually i still haven't find yet what i'm good at ).

living in kuta, give me a lot of situations to be in touch with foreign languages. for example, my boss doesn't speak indonesian at all *he's just here for 2 months, what do you expect?* the good thing is we can gossiping about anything in front of him in indonesian without being afraid he will understand *sinister laughing *. or just go to any public places like restaurant, shop, beach, or warnet, you can hear people speak in alien languages. once i was in a restaurant with a friend, we could hear that every table around us has their own language. my friend said, "are we in a restaurant or in united nations congres?". in a warnet, i can hear someone next to me speak french, two girl in front of me speaking japanese and someone in the corner speak a language i can't recognize.

funny surprise things also happened. i met a local guy with i-never-go-to-school face but does speak japanese fluently . or some little children with foreign bule faces speak indonesian very well with balinese accent .

to have a bussiness in kuta,
at least you need to be able to speak english. once upon a time i went to a souvenir shop, the shopkeeper greeted me with, "please, looking-looking."

from previous days's random things:

the airport was so crowded during the long weekend...
airport , always reminds me of love actually:

Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around.

do you know a tv serial called nip/tuck?
it's about two
doctors having a plastic surgery clinic in south florida.

at the beginning of each episode, dr. mcnamara or dr. troy always interview their future patients with the same question: tell me, what you don't like about yourself?

years ago, before i saw the serial (before the serial didn't even exist) my friend and i wondered, if we have a chance to have a plastic surgery, what would we change?

but instead of thinking what would i change for myself, i told my friend who has a jutek face to have surgery to put
permanent smile on her face. and we both agreed instead of just change one thing, we probably would like to have surgery to turn ourselves to be like errr..... winona ryder, maybe. hahaha...

so tell me,
what you don't like about yourself?

  jhumpa lahiri rocks!
the namesake is her
second book that i read after the one that won the pulitzer prize: intepreter of maladies *see my post on oct 4, 2003*.
even the stories always have
the same background: the indians who live abroad like in britain or united states, i like the way she describes things which made me wanted to
read it without stopping until i reached the last page.

it's about
gogol ganguli , an american born indian whose parents were from calcutta. he was named after nikolai gogol, his father favorite's russian writer. since it sounds pretty strange, and it's not even bengali nor american name, he hates the name so much.

one funny knowledge i got from the book: the name of
the airport in calcutta is dum dum. bukankah sebuah airport seharusnya namanya lebih serius daripada dum dum?? it's more like a tune than a name.

when i tried to google the cover, i
couldn't find the same cover as my 'namesake'. maybe because the book that i got was printed in great britain?? anyway, i like my cover better than the ones that i saw in most bookshops. it's more like a card than a book's cover.

because i like this lay out so much, i won't have any new lay out this month *bilang aja lo lagi males, al! *

baca cuplikan dari buku dewi lestari (dee) yg baru yg judulnya petir di buku yg jelita yg cerita *ih, judulnya males bgt *. gue sukaaa banget sama si petir itu. sampe setelah selesai baca, gue ulang baca lagi! ceritanya rada2 lucu , tentang elektra yg mendeskripsikan kakaknya watti *pake 2 't'* & bokapnya dedi *dari daddy*. background cerita ini juga ngingetin gue sama seseorang yg pernah deket sama
gue *i know, you're reading my blog, ayo ngacung!* cerita2 lainnya di buku itu baru gue baca sekilas & kayaknya ga semenarik petir.
and for all of you who still have
trauma from reading the scientific stuff from the first supernova, you shouldn't hestitate to read this one. at least dari cuplikannya sih ga ada tuh science2nya *& ga nyambung sama supernova2 sebelumnya*.

now reading: the namesake by jhumpa lahiri

nonton juga beberapa
film!

direkomendasiin sama meo *yg blog-nya skrg entah kemana*. film nazi gitulah. tentang seorang ahli kimia yg nemuin gas buat ngebunuh kuman penyakit tipes tapi malahan hasil temuannya dipake buat ngebunuhin org2 yahudi. begitu dia tau, dia langsung
minta bantuan vatikan, tapi malahan ga didengerin, soalnya saat itu vatikan masih ngedukung nazi yg ngelawan rusia yg komunis.

whoaaa... film ini dari kejadian nyata. tentang tentara jerman jaman perang dunia ke-2 yg ketangkep rusia trus dibuang ke kamp kerja paksa somewhere di ujung siberia *udah deket alaska gitu*. dia kabur, trus jalan kaki pulang ke
